Day 181 - Book Shopping at the NGA

I really enjoy the book shop at the National Art Gallery, but I didn't get to look in there for long today because Henry preferred to look at the sculptures in the foyer (particularly the crocodile) and the steps leading down to the book shop. Once we finally got in there, we chose a couple of books for Henry which he wanted to read straight away. In the picture you can see him intently reading Everyone Poos when we went outside to look at the big outdoor sculpture that you can sit in. I wish I could remember the name and a google search isn't helping! Anyway we sat out there for a while this afternoon with Robbie and Damon enjoying the heated seats!

Day 147 - 12 O'clock

I realised at about 2.30 today that the day's photo was supposed to signify 12 o'clock! I hoped to not be up by midnight so went a bit non literal with the idea today. At 5pm I snapped this from a page in my pop's old atlas (bought in Colour Code Books Blacktown, for $11.95 in 1983, according to the inside cover). At 5pm our time it was 12 o'clock in San Francisco, a place that has been on my "to visit" list for a long time.

Day 137 - What You're Reading

These are all the books currently on my reading list! As you can probably tell, I don't have as much time to read as I would like (or as I think I do, according to my book depository problem!)

Currently I am reading the book on top of the pile; Mad Women by Jane Maas, which I picked up in the Portrait Gallery bookshop a couple of months ago. It's basically the story of the women of the Madison Avenue Ad Agencies in the 60s. It's pretty much the female perspective on the story told by one of my absolute favourite TV series Mad Men. I cannot recommend watching this clever, amazing series enough.

But back to books... There are ten books on the pile at the moment. In reality there are most likely a few other 'unreads' about the house as well. If I knew I had a couple of weeks booked at a beach resort at some point this year, I might get most of them finished, but at this stage, I am thinking I may get through one book each school holidays if I am lucky!

To inject a little inspiration into my blog this month, I have decided to play along with the challenge presented on Fat Mum Slim's blog (www.fatmumslim.com.au) and for today the theme was Day 16: What You're Reading

Day 50 - A Love of Reading

My photo today is courtesy of a photo competition Jenna is entering at school, which I think is being run by the school librarian. From what I could gather, the theme was families and a love of reading, so Jenna set up the shot today and this is one that I snapped of her, Dale and Henry reading together. I don't think Henry was 100% sure of his role here, as he did roll away a couple of times, but he did have many giggles! Jenna is a great reader and I hope that Henry will be too some day - the signs are very good so far.

Day 21 - Another Item Ticked off the List

One of the big things to do on my holiday To Do list was to clean out my study. To give you an idea of how unorganised and cluttered it was, I did one day hear Jenna refer to it as 'the junk room' when giving a friend a tour of our house! How embarrassing. I have to admit though, because I try to do most of my work at school, it is more of a storage space and with floor to ceiling shelving on two walls, it really can store quite a lot! I did most of this yesterday but finished it off today so that I could take some photos in there with the daylight flooding in. Like I did in our lounge room, I have tried to move furniture away from windows to let more light in and better access. Additionally, I took one desk out because we really only need one in there. One other thing I did consider was the way the desk faces. I have read before that it is bad feng shui to have your back to the door when sitting at a desk and so I rectified that!

This is a room that we have never really done much to, like picking a colour scheme or anything, but I am a little inspired by the black and white artwork that I put up on the wall. These drawings were done by Dale's Nanna. I am not sure when as they are undated. Maybe someone could have a guess at the fashion era? I was thinking that black and white could be a good look for this room, anyway, if I ever get to finishing the curtains in all the other bedrooms first!
